Although Lorraine has sustained serious injury to her spine, which has resulted in paralysis below her neck, make no mistake, her mind is totally intact. Let's put it this way - Lorraine is Lorraine. She is fighting a momumental battle both physically and emotionally. Her family and friends will continue to stand by her side to support her.
What to expect when visiting: Presently, Lorraine is unable to move and/or feel sensation below her neck. She is also connected to a ventilator, attached in the front of her neck. She spends as much time as possible in her wheelchair. |

In order to speak, she uses a special voice valve that enables air to flow past her vocal cords. Since this valve is not a permanent fixture, during your visit, she may not have it attached, and you may need to try a little lip reading. Don't worry, Lorraine is tolerant of our foibles. What to bring: Lorraine wants to hear about things going on in the world - don't be shy - bring your funny tales, a couple of good articles from the paper, or bring updates on cycling races or political battles.
