About Spinal Cord Injury
Although Lorraine has sustained serious injury to her spine, which has resulted in paralysis below her neck, make no mistake, her mind is totally intact. Let's put it this way - Lorraine is Lorraine. She is fighting a momumental battle both physically and emotionally. Her family and friends will continue to stand by her side to support her.

What to expect when visiting: Presently, Lorraine is unable to move and/or feel sensation below her neck. She is also connected to a ventilator, attached in the front of her neck. She spends as much time as possible in her wheelchair.

In order to speak, she uses a special voice valve that enables air to flow past her vocal cords. Since this valve is not a permanent fixture, during your visit, she may not have it attached, and you may need to try a little lip reading. Don't worry, Lorraine is tolerant of our foibles.

What to bring: Lorraine wants to hear about things going on in the world - don't be shy - bring your funny tales, a couple of good articles from the paper, or bring updates on cycling races or political battles.
